Northern Photography

Northern Photography by Daniel Pavlinovic

Here you’ll find photographs from my journeys to the North – for now, mostly from the Nordic countries: Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Finland, and the Faroe Islands.

Although I was born and still live in warm Dubrovnik, whose climate I truly love, I’ve always been drawn to cold winter weather and snow – a rare guest in my city. We tend to value what’s rare, and perhaps that’s one reason why every snowfall in Dubrovnik left me beside myself with joy. Snow would more often dust only the surrounding hilltops, which spurred me to climb them and that’s how I came to love hiking in the hills and mountains, such as those above Mokošica, just outside Dubrovnik or on Sniježnica, the only mountain in our county.

The weather and climate, the landscapes, culture, and everyday life near and even within the Arctic Circle (66°30′ N) have long been a kind of mystery to me and a source of fascination. That’s why I began traveling through those regions, most often with a few friends who share a similar spirit and love of adventure. These experiences are priceless, and the only thing that can even partially convey them is photography. I’m sharing some of those images here, arranged into galleries that I’ll keep expanding with new journeys and content over time.

I hope you enjoy this small window into the North and the Arctic that I’ve opened here for you!
